Air Berlin resumes limited flight operations
Using visual flight rules, the first Air Berlin flight returning stranded passengers from Palma de Mallorca landed in Munich at 15:23 hours today. More aircraft are already approaching their destination.
DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung) and LBA (German Federal Aviation Office) had decided that controlled VFR passenger flights can be resumed in Germany. Taking advantage of this decision, Air Berlin will be operating around a dozen flights today, mostly linking Palma de Mallorca (PMI) with German destinations like Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Berlin.
Further flights to bring back stranded travellers, for instance from the Canary Islands, are still at the planning stage. If there is no change in weather conditions, this procedure will also be applied to Air Berlin’s schedule tomorrow.
