airberlin: Passengers down, capacity utilization up in February
In February 2012, airberlin again increased capacity utilization, reaching 75.6 percent, i.e. an increase by 4.2 percentage points over the corresponding month of the previous year (2011: 71.4 percent).
In the context of its efficiency-increasing program "Shape & Size", airberlin reduced capacity by 9.4 percent in a targeted manner. In monthly comparison, the number of passengers decreased from 2,132,057 to 2,044,035 (-4.1 percent).
For the first two months of the year, airberlin welcomed a total of 3,945,814 passengers on board, i.e. 7.7 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2011: 4,277,245 passengers). For the same period, airberlin was able to increase the accumulated fleet capacity utilization rate over the previous year from 71.9 to 75.3 percent, i.e. by +3.4 percentage points. Accumulated capacity decreased by 11.9 percent.
