Germany and France „concerned“ on US tanker aircraft contract process
In a joint communiqué German Chancellor Merkel and French president Sarkozy have aired their protest regarding the KC-X selection criteria, which in their view are favoring Boeing.
They “are concerned about the circumstances which have led the US Northrop Grumman group and its European partner EADS to pull out of the competition for the contract for the future US Air Force refuelling planes, after becoming convinced that the call for tenders issued by the US authorities favoured Boeing.”
“The Chancellor and President Sarkozy, in cooperation with the European Commission and their European partners concerned, will consider the implications of future developments in this matter,” the communiqué said.
Angela Merkel and President Sarkozy also declared “that transatlantic economic relations must be based on open markets and fair competition, and reject protectionist temptations, including in the field of defense where every year European Union countries buy three times more equipment from the United States than they sell to it.”
