Lufthansa Technik Frankfurt gains approval for Trent 900 engine services
After receiving the EASA approval from the German aviation authorities (Luftfahrtbundesamt, LBA) in April, the Lufthansa Technik Mainbase Engine Shop at Frankfurt has commenced the comprehensive servicing of Rolls-Royce Trent 900 three-shaft turbofan engines.
These engines power Airbus A380s for Lufthansa and other airlines. The EASA approval qualifies the engine shop to conduct a large number of inspections and repair procedures on the Trent 900, for example installation and removal of QEC (Quick Engine Change) parts to reduce engine change time to a minimum, borescope inspections, troubleshooting and on-wing services carried out by Lufthansa Technik’s Airline Support Teams AST.
The close cooperation between Lufthansa Technik and Rolls-Royce also includes the overhaul of Trent engines at the joint venture N3 Engine Overhaul Services in Arnstadt, Thuringia, Germany, which will also handle overhauls of the Trent 900 used on the world’s largest commercial airliner.
