Lufthansa Technik opens Cabin Innovation Center
On the first day of the Aircraft Interiors Expo, Lufthansa Technik has officially inaugurated its new research and development center for the “Cabin Innovation” business unit. The new building represents an investment of nearly 10 million euros.
“This new facility marks an expansion of Lufthansa Technik’s expertise in the field of cabin innovation while also paving the way for the long-term growth of this business unit,” said August Wilhelm Henningsen, Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik, on the occasion of the opening ceremony.
Cabin Innovation’s core team at Lufthansa Technik currently comprises around 60 staff. That figure is set to climb to 100 in the new cabin innovation center. Further positive effects on jobs are being generated by the supplier operations that are also being incorporated in the building. All in all, the center is set to employ around 200 people
Test facilities to monitor the airworthiness of new products (pre-compliance tests) have been installed in a so-called “qualification lab”, including an environmental testing chamber and equipment to ensure electromagnetic compatibility, as well as vibration and crash test facilities. Lufthansa Technik’s existing Office of Airworthiness and the IP-Management have also moved into the new building. This close proximity will speed up agreements and decision-making processes.
