2007-09-30 - LHT for FlugbereitschaftLufthansa Technik prime contractor for German Government aircraft
Neue Flotte für Regierungsflüge<br /> Lufthansa Technik AG has been selected by the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) to act as prime contractor for the modernization of the medium-range fleet of the Ministry of Defence's Special Mission Wing. The BWB has begun negotiations with the Hamburg-based company, as the preferred supplier, with the aim of negotiating the contractual terms for the procurement, fitting out and technical support of two Airbus A319 Corporate Jetliners and four Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft.
In accepting Lufthansa Technik's proposal to purchase two A319's and four Global 5000 jets, have the two A319's fitted out by Lufthansa Technik and entrust the technical support for both aircraft types to the company which has been responsible for years for the maintenance of both the large Government aircraft and the Luftwaffe's multi-role transport aircraft (MRTT), the BWB had come to the conclusion that this was technically the most cost-effective solution. The Global 5000 jets will be outfitted at the Bombardier completion center in Montreal, Canada, and at Bombardier's service center in Tucson, USA. Technical support for the Global 5000 jets is to be provided by Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services in Berlin.
The six aircraft of the new medium-range fleet chosen by the BWB will replace the German Government's existing fleet of Challenger 601 jets starting in 2010. The two 48-seat A319's will be delivered in 2010 following their completion in Hamburg. Delivery of all four 12-seat Global 5000 jets is scheduled for 2011.
