Niki gets its first Embraer 190
Embraer delivered the first EMBRAER 190 jet to Austria’s NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH, today, at the Company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
The aircraft will serve the airline’s European network, operating from Vienna and Innsbruck, in Austria, and NIKI plans to debut the E-Jet on new intra-European routes. The deal was announced in July 2008, during the UK’s Farnborough Airshow, and includes firm orders for five EMBRAER 190s, plus five purchase rights.
Benefiting from the unparalleled efficient operating costs of the E-Jets, as well as low fuel burn and emissions levels, the low-cost carrier will become the first in Europe to combine the 100-seat EMBRAER 190, optimized for mid-density routes, with conventional 150- to 210-seat narrow-body aircraft, optimized for high-density routes, thus enjoying the benefits of a wider market coverage and greater business opportunities. “The EMBRAER 190 fits perfectly into our growth strategy. The aircraft is ideal for the establishment of new routes, as it keeps the start-up costs low and offers passengers the familiar comfort of a medium-haul jet,” said Niki Lauda, founder and President of NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH.
