OHB Group taking over Rheinmetall Italia’s satellite business

OHB Technology AG has acquired Rheinmetall Italia's satellite business, based in Rome, in an asset transaction. The buyer of the business unit is Telematic Solutions S.p.A., a subsidiary of the OHB Group.

The business acquired from Rheinmetall Italia has 12 employees and an order backlog of EUR 7 million including subcontractors. This transaction strengthens OHB's position in the Italian market and extends its capacity as a provider of satellite and mini-satellite systems.

With the strategic decision for Telematic Solutions to buy the business, the Group is able to retain the existing order structures for the current joint programmes between Rheinmetall Italia and OHB's largest Italian subsidiary, CGS S.p.A. in Milan. Both companies are involved in different constellations in the Miosat (optical micro earth observation satellite, prime contractor Rheinmetall Italia B.U. Spazio), Lares (research satellite for testing laser technology, prime contractor CGS) and Prisma (hyper spectral earth observation, prime contractor CGS) programmes.
