Wolfgang Kurth is leaving Air Berlin

On account of differences of opinion concerning the future strategic positioning of the technical support companies and their integration in the Air Berlin Group, the Board of Air Berlin and Wolfgang Kurth, Chief Maintenance Officer, have come to a mutual agreement, as a result of which Wolfgang Kurth is leaving the company with immediate effect.

Initially Kurth worked for the Air Berlin Group in an advisory capacity from 2006 onwards. On 1st July 2007 he took over as joint managing director of dba alongside Helmut Weixler, thereby contributing significantly to the restructuring of dba and its integration in the Air Berlin Group. Then on 1st June 2008 Wolfgang Kurth was appointed Chief Maintenance Officer at Air Berlin. During this period he laid the foundations for a process of continuous performance improvement and played a major part in making this important division more economically efficient.

On 1st March 2010 Helmut Himmelreich will be taking up the recently vacated post of Chief Maintenance Officer. That was the decision reached by Air Berlin’s Board of Executive Directors. Helmut Himmelreich, born in 1952, has been Senior Executive Vice President at SR Technics since July 2007. In this capacity he oversaw the restructuring and reorientation of technical services companies in Switzerland, the UK, Ireland and Malta.
